TOPIC: Positive Obsession
MEMORISE “But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye” – Acts 4:19
READ: Romans 8:35-39
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
MESSAGE
When a girl is in love with a boy to the point of losing her sleep or when a boy is consumed with the thought of watching soccer at any given opportunity instead of studying his books, that is an obsession. Obsession is an excessive devotion to a fellow or thing to the point of personal loss, injury, or death. Although it’s often used in a negative sense, I will examine that word in a positive light today.
One Man who had an obsession for His Father was Jesus; He loved and obeyed God to the point of death, as shown in Philippians 2:5-8. His obsession was hinged on His love for mankind, which made Him lose His life so as to win us back to God. Beloved, are you in love with the Saviour who gave up His glory and comfort for your sake? Unfortunately, many people are hurting Jesus’ feelings today. In spite of this, He still intercedes for them before the throne of grace. What an obsession! Whoever is obsessed with Jesus would love Him, study God’s word, communicate frequently with Him, and always talk to everyone about Him. The best way to reciprocate His love is by being obsessed with Him.
REFLECTION
Are you obsessed with Jesus as He is about you?
HYMN 41: Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All
Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All,
Hear Me, Blest Saviour, When I Call;
Hear Me, And From Thy Dwelling Place
Pour Down The Riches Of Thy Grace;
Refrain:
Jesus, My Lord, I Thee Adore;
Oh Make Me Love Thee More And More.
Jesus, Too Late I Thee Have Sought;
How Can I Love Thee As I Ought?
And How Extol Thy Matchless Fame,
The Glorious Beauty Of Thy Name? [Refrain]
Jesus, What Didst Thou Find In Me,
That Thou Hast Dealt So Lovingly?
How Great The Joy That Thou Hast Brought
So Far Exceeding Hope Or Thought! [Refrain]
Jesus, Of Thee Shall Be My Song,
To Thee My Heart And Soul Belong;
All That I Have Or Am Is Thine,
And Thou, Blest Saviour, Thou Art Mine. [Refrain]
