TOPIC: God’s Vessel
MEMORISE: Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few. – Matthew 9:37
READ: 2 Timothy 2:19-22
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
MESSAGE:
From today’s memory verse, we see that the work in God’s kingdom is much, while the labourers to execute it are few. This shows that although millions of potential vessels are available to fulfil God’s mandate of soul-winning, only a few are qualified. The vessel God would use must meet the condition of holiness. He or she must be honourable, dedicated, and available to God.
Anytime I see a young person handling God’s work without seriousness, I wonder if the fellow understands the nature of the service God is calling him or her to. Are you a worker in your church or school fellowship, and you’re hardly ever in church or often absent from departmental meetings? Then, you are only occupying space because, by the time God raises other vessels, you will become irrelevant. May this not be your portion, in Jesus’ name.
Many people say that they are available for God to use, but only those who purge themselves of filthy habits and attitudes will become His vessels unto honour.
PRAYER POINT: Father, please purify me and make me fit for Your use.
HYMN 39: I Am Thine, O Lord.
I am Thine, O Lord
I have heard Thy voice
And it told Thy love to me
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee
Chorus:
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord
To Thy precious, bleeding side.
Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord
By the pow’r of grace divine
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope
And my will be lost in Thine.
Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee,
My God I commune as friend with friend
There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
