TOPIC: King Ahab
MEMORISE: But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. – Obadiah 1:17
READ: 1 Kings 16:29-34
And in the thirty and eighth year of Asa king of Judah began Ahab the son of Omri to reign over Israel: and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty and two years.
And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him.
And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.
And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.
And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.
In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun.
MESSAGE:
Ahab was an evil king whose marriage to Jezebel multiplied his wickedness. During her husband’s reign of 22 years, Jezebel championed the worship of Baal. As a powerful queen, she ordered the beheading of some of God’s prophets, but God positioned a God-fearing officer named Obadiah in Ahab’s court who made efforts to preserve some prophets. He was able to hide a hundred prophets whom he fed with bread and water.
Do you know that even in a bad country, God can put some of His children in different agencies of the government so that they can act as gatekeepers against evil? For example, God can position a believer as a sub-leader in the student government of a university so that when the team suggests a bad decision, he or she would be there to counter it, thereby ensuring that no discomfort comes to God’s children in that university.
Beloved, you were not born in your country by mistake. Ask God to show you why He allowed you to be birthed there because everything will work together for your good when you are clear about your purpose
ACTION POINT:
Ask God to reveal the reason He put you where you are right now.
HYMN 40: CHRIST IS OUR CORNER-STONE
1 Christ Is Our Corner-Stone;
On Him Alone We Build;
With His True Saints Alone
The Courts Of Heaven Are Filled;
On His Great Love
Our Hopes We Place
Of Present Grace,
And Joys Above.
2 Oh, Then, With Hymns Of Praise
These Hallow’d Courts Shall Ring:
Our Voices We Will Raise,
The Three In One To Sin;
And Thus Proclaim
In Joyful Song,
Both Loud And Long,
That Glorious Name.
3 Here, Gracious God, Do Thou
For Evermore Draw Nigh;
Accept Each Faithful Vow,
And Mark Each Suppliant Sigh;
In Copious Shower
On All Who Pray,
Each Holy Day,
Thy Blessings Pour.
4 Here May We Gain From Heaven
The Grace Which We Implore,
And May That Grace, Once Given
Be With Us Evermore;
Until That Day,
When All The Blest,
To Endless Rest
Are Called Away.
