Title: Only God Can Protect
Memorize: I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. Psalm 3:5 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Psalm 3:3-6 (Nkjv)
[3] But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
[4] I cried to the Lord with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah
[5] I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.
[6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.
Message:
From today’s memory verse, you can see that the reason you sleep at night and wake up every morning is that God sustains you.
No matter how strong a man is, if his enemies cannot defeat him when he is awake, they can defeat him when he is asleep.
A fellow might be able to say, “I have bodyguards watching over me for 24 hours daily.”
However, there are enemies that bodyguards cannot even see, not to talk of fight. In any case, even the best bodyguards fall asleep.
In 1 Samuel 26:5-12, King Saul was sleeping, and Abner, a mighty warrior who was respected by the king, fell asleep also.
This was someone who was supposed to be guarding the king. When David came and saw them both sleeping, he took the king’s spear and water bottle away.
In the morning, he proved to the king that even with the best of bodyguards, he could have lost his life the previous night.
No matter how many people are guarding you, without God, you are not safe.
Beloved, you have a Father who never sleeps. He is the only One who can really protect you, your family, and your friends.
However, you have to be His child; if you are His child indeed, then you have nothing to fear.
Key Point:
God protects His children. Are you His child?
HYMN 30 – WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]
3. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]
