Title: Do The Word
Memorize: But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: James 1:21-25
[21] Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
[22] But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
[23] For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
[24] for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
[25] But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
Message:
Your attitude towards the word of God matters a lot. When it comes to listening to the word of God, there can only be two categories of people – those who listen and do the word and those who listen but do nothing. Whenever you hear the word of God, particularly the one that convicts you of any wrong attitude, rather than reason it out, act on it immediately. Once I hear a word that touches me, I act on it immediately.
Some years ago, I attended Bible study, and my Father in the Lord said that worldly music invites evil spirits into a home. After the service, I rushed home, packed all the worldly music records I had, and destroyed them immediately. I cut off every link with evil spirits in my home.
A prompt response to His word is what God expects from His children. The Bible says that when you hear God’s word and do not act on it, you are only deceiving yourself. Also, the blessings of God are on those who do the word, not those who only listen to it. Henceforth, hear and do God’s word always so that you can be blessed.
Key Point:
Only those who listen and act on the word of God get the blessings in God’s word.
Hymn 35 – Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus
1 Tis so sweet to trust in
Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise;
Just to know, “Thus saith the Him! Lord.”
Refrain
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him
How l’ve proved Him o’er and o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!
2 O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
‘Neath the healing, cleansing Hood!
3 Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.
4 I’m so glad I learn’d to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend,
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
