Title: Ezra’s Petition
Memorize: Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 5:5-7 (Nkjv)
[5] Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
[6] Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
[7] casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
Message:
Many people talk about humility, but they do not display humility when they find themselves in certain situations. Today’s memory verse says that you should be clothed in humility, meaning that humility is like a garment. One reason you must wear humility like a garment is so you can receive grace from God. His grace is available to everyone (Titus 2:11), but there is a special dimension of grace that only the humble can receive from Him.
Another reason you must be clothed in humility is so you can have authority over the devil because the devil flees when he is resisted by the humble. James 4:7 says: “Submit yourself therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” For you to resist the devil, you need to submit yourself to God. If at any point you ask someone, “Do you know who I am?” it simply shows that you have a measure of pride in you.
My dear child, as you go into this week, be intentional about being humble by listening to good counsel, greeting and respecting elders, et cetera. Examine yourself to know if there are traces of pride in you and ask God to help you get rid of them. Do not allow God to resist you because if He does, no man can help you.
Key Point:
God resists the proud.
Bible Quiz:
According to the book of James, what does God do to proud people?
HYMN: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
