Title: He Corrects His Sons
Memorize: And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; Hebrews 12:5 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Hebrews 12:5-8 (Nkjv)
[5] And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
[6] For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”
[7] If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?
[8] But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
Message:
Some years ago, we held a week-long programme in the USA. God’s presence Was strong, and His power came down mightily to bless the people.
At the end of the programme, we dispersed while still talking about God’s mighty visitation.
When we arrived at the hotel I was lodged in, the fellow sitting in the front passenger’s seat of the car I drove in alighted and shut the door, not knowing that my hand was in the doorframe.
As the door hit my hand against the frame, I screamed in pain, and everyone panicked before they realised what had happened.
While climbing up the stairs to my hotel room, my first question to God was, “Daddy, what have l done wrong?” He explained that it was my punishment for not appreciating His visitation at the programme.
Immediately, I apologised and started thanking Him, and before I turned the doorknob to my hotel room, the pain had disappeared.
My dear child, God chastises His children. If He really loves you, He will correct you when you do wrong.
When He does, accept His correction, and amend your Ways.
Reflection:
How do you respond anytime God corrects you?
HYMN 30: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
