Title: Moderation
Memorize: Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Philippians 4:5 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Philippians 4:5-9 (Nkjv)
[5] Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
[6] Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
[7] and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
[8] Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
[9] The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Message:
Today, many people, especially young people, do not understand what it means to do things in moderation.
Some think that moderation should only be applied to certain aspects of their lives, like dressing, but they throw caution to the wind when it comes to other things.
This is why some people will go to a party and eat like gluttons; they will ask to be served everything prepared for guests. This is wrong! Too much of everything is bad.
When you do anything excessively, you are carnal, and the word of God teaches us to shun a life that pleases the flesh (Romans 8:13).
Control your flesh and ensure that it is not indulging in things that are not beneficial to you. If you always do whatever you feel like doing, your flesh will begin to control you.
For example, if you eat too much or eat when you should be fasting, you might be putting your life in danger.
If you sleep when you should be reading or working, you run the risk of becoming a failure and slipping into poverty.
If you talk when you ought to be quiet, you might get into trouble. My dear child, learn to discipline yourself to do things in moderation in every aspect of your life.
Key Point:
I refuse to do things excessively. I receive grace to be moderate in all things, in Jesus’ name.
Bible Quiz:
The fruit of the Spirit that helps a believer live in moderation is………….
HYMN 33: GUIDE ME, O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH!
1 Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah!
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy powerful hand:
Bread of heaven! Bread of heaven!
Feed me now and evermore,
Feed me now and evermore.
2 Open Thou the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream doth flow:
Let the fiery, cloudy pillar,
Lead me all my journey through:
Strong deliverer! Strong deliverer!
Be Thou still my strength and shield,
Be Thou still my strength and shield.
3 If I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside:
Bear me through the swelling torrent,
Land me safe on Canaan’s side:
Songs of praises! Song of praises!
I will ever give to Thee,
I will ever give to Thee.
4 Saviour, come! we long to see Thee,
Long to dwell with Thee above;
And to know in full communion,
All the sweetness of Thy love,
Come, Lord Jesus! Come Lord Jesus!
Take Thy waiting people home,
Take Thy waiting people home.
