Title: Always Remain Humble
Memorize: But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 9:6-10 (Nkjv)
[6] And he said to him, “Look now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he says surely comes to pass. So let us go there; perhaps he can show us the way that we should go.”
[7] Then Saul said to his servant, “But look, if we go, what shall we bring the man? For the bread in our vessels is all gone, and there is no present to bring to the man of God. What do we have?”
[8] And the servant answered Saul again and said, “Look, I have here at hand one-fourth of a shekel of silver. I will give that to the man of God, to tell us our way.”
[9] (Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he spoke thus: “Come, let us go to the seer”; for he who is now called a prophet was formerly called a seer.)
[10] Then Saul said to his servant, “Well said; come, let us go.” So they went to the city where the man of God was.
Message:
Saul was a humble young man before he became the king of Israel. One day, his father gave him the task of finding his lost donkeys. During his search, Saul sought God’s guidance, and this led him to Prophet Samuel, who told him where to find the donkeys and also anointed him as Israel’s first king.
It is sad that the once humble Saul became proud and disobedient to God after he became the king of Israel. Sadly, many teenagers end up like Saul, rebelling against God’s instructions after He has answered their prayers. My dear child, please do not be like Saul.
Beloved, God is interested in every detail of your life – from the way you dress to the type of fellow you want to marry, the businesses you want to do, your choice of financial investments, your relationship with your parents and relatives, and so on. This is why you must obey God’s instructions according to His word in every aspect of your life. You must not be like Saul, who, despite God’s help and favor, chose not to honor God’s instruction in 1 Samuel 15:1-23. Remain humble before God, and He will keep lifting you higher.
Prayer Point:
Father, please help me to remain humble before you all the days of my life.
Bible Quiz:
Why did God reject King Saul?
HYMN 33: GUIDE ME, O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH!
1 Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah!
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy powerful hand:
Bread of heaven! Bread of heaven!
Feed me now and evermore,
Feed me now and evermore.
2 Open Thou the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream doth flow:
Let the fiery, cloudy pillar,
Lead me all my journey through:
Strong deliverer! Strong deliverer!
Be Thou still my strength and shield,
Be Thou still my strength and shield.
3 If I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside:
Bear me through the swelling torrent,
Land me safe on Canaan’s side:
Songs of praises! Song of praises!
I will ever give to Thee,
I will ever give to Thee.
4 Saviour, come! we long to see Thee,
Long to dwell with Thee above;
And to know in full communion,
All the sweetness of Thy love,
Come, Lord Jesus! Come Lord Jesus!
Take Thy waiting people home,
Take Thy waiting people home.
