Title: The Right Type Of Fast
Memorize: Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV)
Bible Reading: Matthew 6:16-18 (NKJV)
[16] Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
[17] But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face
[18] so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Message:
Engaging in a fast is great, as it builds up your spiritual muscles if done correctly. One of the right ways to fast is by praying and studying the word of God more intently. The time a person spends fasting will be more beneficial spiritually if he/she gives a great time to praying during the fast.
Without prayer, fasting is starving; it is just staying without food. If you want your fasting to be meaningful and not be a dieting exercise where you go without eating, you must lift your heart and voice in communion with your Heavenly Father. As you fellowship with the Father, He releases revelations or instructions that will either bring a solution or clarity to any unpleasant situation in your life. Also, it can strengthen you against future temptations.
However, before you embark on a fast, you need to have a purpose so that you can have the right scriptures to study and the right prayer points. If you do these, your fasts will produce results.
KEY POINT:
Don’t fast if you cannot pray.
HYMN 3 – All To Jesus I Surrender
- All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
CHORUS
I surrender all. I surrender all:
All to Thee,
my blessed savior
I surrender all
- All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken.
Take me, Jesus, take me now. - All to Jesus I surrender.
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!
