Title: Get Mentorship
Memorize: Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ. Corinthians 11:1 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading:: 1 Timothy 1:18-19 (Nkjv)
[18] This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,
[19] having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck,
Message:
Someone once said that when a person is young, God wants him or her to be zealous, but as the person grows older, He requires him or her to be wise. Today, I see that many young people boast about their oratory skills, anointing, and service to God. However, their lives do not reflect God’s wisdom and the fruit of the Spirit.
Timothy was a youth who was deeply committed to God and his calling as a pastor and church leader. Despite his zealousness and commitment, he also turned to Apostle Paul for mentorship and encouragement. Paul encouraged Timothy to turn to the Lord in prayer to overcome the numerous challenges and uncertainties that came with his calling. Subsequently, Timothy turned to prayer as a source of guidance, encouragement, and empowerment; he did not rely on his own abilities.
My dear child, if you are a leader of a group in your church, school, community, et cetera, you must seek divine assistance from God in fulfilling your responsibilities. You must also seek counsel regularly from a godly mentor so you can navigate the challenges of leadership successfully. A proverb says, “Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown”; however, when God breathes on your leadership skills, you will enjoy ease all through your tenure.
Action Point:
Getting mentorship and seeking guidance from God are very important in leadership.
HYMN 61: TAKE THE NAME OF JESUS WITH YOU
1 Take the name of Jesus with you,
Child of sorrow and of woe.
It will joy and comfort give you,
Take it then where’er you go.
Chorus:
Precious name, O how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of heaven;
Precious name, O how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of heaven.
2 Take the name of Jesus ever
As a shield from evr’y snare;
If temptations ’round you gather,
Breathe that holy name in prayer.
3 Oh, the precious name of Jesus,
How it thrills our souls with joy,
When His loving arms receive us,
And His songs Our tongues employ!
4 At the name of Jesus bowing,
Falling prostrate at His feet
King of kings, in heaven we’ll crown Him
When our journey is complete.
