Title: Your First Love

Memorize: Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Revelation 2:4 (Nkjv)

Bible Reading: Revelation 2:1-5 (Nkjv)

[1] “To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:

[2] “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars;

[3] and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.

[4] Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

[5] Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

Message:

As a Christian, you should be burning with genuine love for Christ. The moment you give your life to Christ, the Holy Spirit fills you with deep and pure love for God, however, believers fall short when they don’t diligently fan the flame.

God pointed out to the Church in our text, saying: “I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:” Revelation 2:2

God told them that in spite of the good works they did, He would remove their candlestick because they had forsaken their first love.

Thank God they had the opportunity to repent. May you not get to a point where God will remove your light in Jesus’ name.

Is the flame of your love for God dying or dead? Fan it by spending time with His word, praying in the Spirit, and listening to the Holy Spirit.

Key Point:

For your spiritual activities to be rewarded by God, ensure that your relationship with Him is intact.

HYMN 9 – O JESUS, I HAVE PROMISED

1. O Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou for ever near me,
My Master and my Friend:
I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my Guide.

2. O let me feel Thee near me;
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.

3. O let me hear Thee speaking
In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
The murmurs of self-will;
O speak to reassure me,
To hasten or control;
O speak and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.

4. O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee,
That where Thou art in Glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And, Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow
My Master and my Friend.
