Title: Obey Your Parents
Memorize: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Ephesians 6:1 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Ephesians 6:1-3 (Nkjv)
[1] Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
[2] “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise:
[3] “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
Message:
When my children were much younger, they felt I was too harsh on them because I would not let them oversleep, overplay, or overeat.
I ensured that they studied their books even during holidays rather than spending all the time playing.
I involved them in church activities and even encouraged them to fast and pray regularly.
Whenever they expressed reluctance in obeying some of my instructions, I made them understand that obedience to parents is a command from God, and it comes with divine blessings.
Today, they can boldly say that it pays to be obedient to parents.
Beloved, you may sometimes feel reluctant to obey your parents, especially when you feel misunderstood or restricted.
However, you must honour and obey them, regardless of how you feel. Today’s Bible reading tell us that obeying and honouring one’s parents is a command which comes with a promise of blessing.
When you see obedience as an act of worship and submission to God, it becomes very easy for you to do.
My dear child, don’t see your parents as being overbearing.
A popular saying goes thus: “What an elder sees while sitting cannot be seen by a child who is standing.”
Your parents have the wealth of experience and wisdom that you do not have.
Therefore, ensure that you do not dishonour them with your words or actions.
Key Point:
Do not dishonour or disobey your parents. Happy Children’s Day!
Hymn 2: I Am Thine O Lord
1 I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
and it told Thy love to me;
but I long to rise in the arms of faith,
and be closer drawn to Thee.
Refrain:
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
to the cross where Thou hast died;
draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
to Thy precious, bleeding side.
2 Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
by the pow’r of grace divine;
let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
and my will be lost in Thine. [Refrain]
3 O, the pure delight of a single hour
that before Thy throne I spend,
when I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
I commune as friend with friend! [Refrain]
4 There are depths of love that I cannot know
till I cross the narrow sea;
there are heights of joy that I may not reach
till I rest in peace with Thee. [Refrain]
