Title: Focus On God
Memorize: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Hebrews 12:1 (Nkjv)
[1] Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Message:
I was once a mathematics lecturer, so I know how students behave in a classroom.
Not all students focus on what is being taught; some focus on the teacher’s clothes, grammar, or pronunciation, while a few others are distracted by other students, and many other things.
Interestingly, the same thing happens to believers, who are pilgrims on this earth.
Today, many believers have lost their focus. Some of them solely seek material blessings from God, losing out on the most important things in the process.
I am a living testimony of the truth embedded in today’s memory verse. Since I chose to set my focus on God’s Kingdom and His righteousness in 1973 (the year I surrendered my life to Jesus), I have received countless blessings from Him to date.
My dear child, keep your focus only on God and His Kingdom, and not on what you Can receive from Him.
Rather than chasing shadows, pursue God and stay grounded in Him. When God is your true focus, He will take you to higher heights and places you never imagined.
Reflection:
Is your focus set on God’s kingdom and His righteousness?
OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 2 SEPTEMBER 2026 HYMN 67-
I’M PRESSING ON THE UPWARD WAY
1 l’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining everyday;
Still praying as I onward bound
“Lord, plant my feet on higher
ground.”
Chorus:
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s table-land;
Where love, and joy, and light abound,
Lord, plant my feet on higherground.
2 My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise, and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My constant aimn is higher ground.
3 Beyond the mist I fain would rise,
To rest beneath unclouded skies,
Above earth’s turmoil peace is found
By those who dwell on higher ground.
4 I long to scale the utmost height,
Though rough the way, and hard the fight,
My song, while climbing, shall resound
Lord, lead me on to higher ground.
5 Lord, lead me up the mountain side
I dare not climb without my Guide;
And, heaven gained, I’ll gaze around,
With grateful heart from higher ground.
