Title: The Boastful
Memorize Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips. Proverbs 27:2 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Matthew 6:1-2 (Nkjv)
[1] Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
[2] Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
Message:
As a child of God, you have been commanded not to be boastful but to be humble. Do not brag about yourself to people because this can lead to envy and hate.
A mouth that sings his/her own praise will be brought down. Thus, let Your results sing your praise, not you doing so yourself.
Do your best and let others do the praising. As a student, your excellent results will announce you, not bragging about how intelligent you are.
Boastfulness is a pitfall you must avoid because it will make you think you are better than every other person.
Those who boast can sometimes get into trouble especially when they boast of the things they don’t have or cannot do.
The trouble comes when they are asked to show/do what they boasted about.
My beloved child, there is only one acceptable kind of boast – boasting about Christ.
Apostle Paul said: “that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”” (1 Corinthians 1:31) because He will lift you high when you do.
Key Point:
Never blow your trumpet; let your results do.
HYMN 5 – TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE
1. Take my life and let it
Consecrated Lord to Thee
Take my moment and my days
Let them flow ceaseless praise.
2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for thee
3. Take my voice and let me sing
Always only for my king;
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
4. Take my sliver and my gold
Not a mite would I withhold
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as thou shalt choose.
5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall no longer mine:
Take my heart, it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for thee
