Title: Don’t Take God For Granted
Memorize: Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. Proverbs 3:7 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Psalm 51:10-12
[10] Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
[11] Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
[12] Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
Message:
When you compare King Saul, who disobeyed God, and David, who committed murder and adultery, it is easy to say that David should have been thrown straight into hell.
However, God had mercy on him because he genuinely repented of his sins.
Despite being called ‘a man after God’s own heart,’ God’s mercy didn’t wipe out the consequences of David’s sin.
Throughout the book of Psalms, we see that David’s repentance and constant fellowship with God qualified him to be a man whose lineage received the privilege of birthing the Savior of the world-Jesus Christ.
Don’t believe false teachings that encourage you to sin and later ask God for mercy; you may not escape the consequences of your sin.
Mercy works for those who don’t take God for granted by deliberately going against His instructions.
This was the real reason King Saul was immediately disqualified in 1 Samuel 15.
I have discovered that the closer you are to God, the humbler you will become, and the more you will enjoy His mercy.
Key Point:
It is better to humble yourself before God so that the consequences of sin will not humble you.
HYMN 3: I AM THINE OH LORD
1. I am Thine, O Lord I have heard Thy voice And it told Thy love to me But I long to rise in the arms of faith And be closer drawn to Thee
Chorus: Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord To the cross where Thou hast died; Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord To Thy precious, bleeding side.
2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord By the pow’r of grace divine Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope And my will be lost in Thine.
3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour That before Thy throne I spend When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God I commune as friend with friend
4. There are depths of love that I cannot know Till I cross the narrow sea There are heights of joy that I may not reach Till I rest in peace with Thee.
