Title: Be Moderate In Eating
Memorize: And put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite. Proverbs 23:2 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 25:16 (Nkjv)
[16] Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need, lest you be filled with it and vomit.
Message:
Today’s memory verse admonishes you to control your appetite. One Bible character who lost a great blessing because of his uncontrolled appetite was Esau.
He claimed that he was at the point of death, so he sold his birthright for a plate of food (Genesis 25:32).
Many destinies have been destroyed because of food. I remember when I was a boy, a neighbor in my village brought a bowl of food to me as appreciation for giving her son my old textbooks.
It was a custom in those days to show our mothers any gifts that were given to us so that they would approve or disapprove of them.
Therefore, I put the bowl of food in the kitchen and went out to play football with my friends until my mother returned from the farm.
The following day, I told my mother about the food, and she requested to see it. Amazingly, it had turned black and hard like charcoal.
Upon our findings, we discovered that the neighbor wanted to kill me because I was more brilliant than her son. All glory be to God for saving me that day.
My dear child, do not be a glutton. You will not die if you politely refuse some meals or eat in moderation. Learn to control your appetite.
Key Point:
Controlling your appetite can save your life.
HYMN 10 – O GOD, OUR HELP IN AGES PAST
1. O God, our help in ages past
Our hope for years to come
Our shelter from the stormy blast
And our eternal home.
2. Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure
Sufficient is Thine arm alone
And our defence is sure.
3. Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received her frame
From everlasting Thou art God
To endless years the same.
4. A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone
Short as he watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream
Bears all its sons away
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
6. O God, our help in ages past
Our hope in years to come
Be thou our guard while trouble last
And our Eternal home.
