Title: Tame Your Tongue
Memorize: Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: James 3:8-12 (Nkjv)
[8] But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
[9] With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.
[10] Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
[11] Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?
[12] Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.
Message:
Of all the parts of the body created by God, the tongue is one of the smallest but the most powerful because it can both create and destroy.
In our Bible reading today, Apostle James expressed his disappointment over the fact that many Christians are not able to control the use of their tongues, so they engage in both blessing and cursing.
God has given us the freedom of expression, but the onus lies on us to choose our words.
Speak words that bring light and hope and that are rooted in love, words that build up and not the ones that tear down.
You may find this difficult to do. However, when you partner with the Holy Spirit, He will help you to tame your tongue.
He is the only One who can solve this problem and transform you.
I want you to ask God to guide you in speaking words that will honor Him, accomplish His purpose, and bring life to others every day.
I also implore you to check your reactions when you are under pressure and be careful of your utterances at all times.
Prayer Point:
Father, please help me to control my tongue.
HYMN 20 – CHRISTIAN, SEEK NOT YET REPOSE
1 Christian, seek not yet repose;
Hear thy guardian angel say,
“Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray!”
2 Principalities and powers ,
Mustering their unseen array,
Wait for thy unguarded hours:
“Watch and pray.”
3 Gird thy heavenly armour on;
Wear it every night and day
Ambush’d lies the evil one:
“Watch and pray.”
4 Hear the victors who o’ercame;
Still they mark each warrior’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
“Watch and pray!”
5 Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.
6 Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou lovest to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word
“Watch and pray!”
