Topic: Maintaining Relationships
MEMORISE: Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. 1 Thessalonians 5:11
READ: Ephesians 4:1-3
- I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
- With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
- Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
MESSAGE
No matter who you are, you will need to interact with people. It does not matter if you are a leader or a follower; you need to engage with people to be successful. Having a sound connection with others will determine if you will be successful as a leader or team player.
To build a solid relationship with others, you must respect and show them that their opinion matters. In a healthy relationship, there must be trust. For instance, Jonathan had so much trust in his friend, David, that he exchanged his clothes, girdle, bow, and sword with him (1 Samuel 18:4). Love must also be present in every healthy relationship. Jonathan’s love for David made him take several risks just to save him from his father, Saul.
My dear child, you must shun habits that kill good relationships, such as gossiping, spreading rumours, jealousy, envy, etc. You must also ensure that your relationship with others is not parasitic: there should be mutual benefit to everyone involved. Don’t engage with others just to receive from them; be a blessing too.
ACTION POINT
Shun habits that kill good relationships.
HYMN 6 – MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHING LESS
1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
CHORUS
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
3. His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
In Him, my righteousness, alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
