TOPIC: King Jeroboam (2)
MEMORISE: There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 14:12
READ: 2 Kings 14:23-29
23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.
24 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
25 He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gathhepher.
26 For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.
27 And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
29 And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.
MESSAGE:
Under the reign of the second Jeroboam, the Israelites worshipped God at some shrines and through images that resembled the golden calf. The sins that started with the first Jeroboam continued with the second one. Even though his reign started more than one hundred years after the first Jeroboam, the second Jeroboam still persisted in the same sinful ways. The second Jeroboam reigned in Israel for 41 years, which was almost twice as long as the first Jeroboam, who reigned for 22 years. Although he had military success, his heart was not upright before God. No wonder God removed him and allowed the throne to be given to another person.
I want to emphasise that a fellow’s seemingly good results do not necessarily mean that God is with him or her. Pharaoh was the highest officer in Egypt, but the Bible says that God created him for destruction despite his greatness. Please do not envy sinners who are doing well because their destruction may be near. If you have given your life to Christ, rest assured that your tomorrow will be alright as you keep obeying God
CONFESSION
I will not end up in destruction, in Jesus’ name!
