Title: A Joint Heir
Memorize: The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, Romans 8:16 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Romans 8:14-17 (Nkjv)
[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
[15] For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
[16] The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
[17] and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together
Message:
A heir is a person who succeeds another person and is entitled to all the rights, privileges, and possessions of whom he or she is succeeding.
For example, a prince or princess might have the same access to some things in a kingdom as a king, but a slave or commoner may not have the same access.
A heir enjoys many privileges, unlike a slave or commoner.
Likewise, being a son or daughter of God makes you a joint heir with Christ, giving you the privilege of sonship.
God sees you as He sees His son, Jesus; therefore, you also have all the power, rights, and privileges that Jesus has.
My dear child, being a joint heir with Christ implies that you can do all that Jesus did while on earth and even more.
You have direct access to God the Father; you can call on Him anytime, and He will answer.
You can also perform miracles and cast out demons.
However, to maintain this privilege, I implore you to stay holy so that sin will not rob you of your authority in Christ.
Key Point:
Are you exercising your authority like Jesus, or are you behaving like a servant?
HYMN: PRAISE HIM, PRAISE HIM JESUS OUR BLESSED REDEEMER
1 Praise Him! praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
Sing, O earth, His wonderful love proclaim!
Hail Him, hail Him! Highest angels in glory!
Strength and honor give to His holy name!
Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard his children.
In His arms He carries them all day long.
O ye saints that dwell on the mountain of zion
Praise Him! praise Him!
Ever in joyful song!
2 Praise Him! praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer,
For our sins He suffered and bled and died;
He, our Rock, our Hope of eternal salvation,
Hail Him! hail Him! Jesus, the Crucified;
Loving Savior, meekly enduring sorrow,
Crowned with thorns that cruelly pierced His brow;
Once for us rejected, despised, and forsaken,
Prince of Glory, ever triumphant now.
3 Praise Him! praise Him!
Jesus, our blessed Redeemer,
Heav’nly portals, loud with hosannas ring!
Jesus, Savior, reigneth for ever and ever;
Crown Him! crown Him! Prophet and Priest and King!
Death is vanquished! Tell it with joy, ye faithful,
Where is now thy victory, boasting grave?
Jesus lives! No longer thy portals are cheerless;
Jesus lives, the mighty and strong to save.
