Title: Put The Past Behind You
MEMORIZE: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. Philippians 3:13
BIBLE READING ISAIAH 43:18-19
[18] Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
[19]Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Message:
It is good to learn from your past mistakes but dwelling on your past is unacceptable as it would make you glued to the past, If you were a sinner who later repented of your sins, you must believe that God has forgiven you completely and He expects you never to return to them.
Also, you don’t have to keep remembering the unpleasant past you’ve had so that you can focus on growing in the Lord through His word.
For example, Apostle Paul, who was a chronic persecutor of brethren, would not have grown to the extent of writing two-thirds of the New Testament if he had not moved on from his past.
Focusing on your past will hinder you from seeing the glorious future ahead of you.
Also, as a child of God, when things don’t go smoothly as planned, don’t be quick to make reference to ‘the good old days.
Rather, believe God for the better days ahead as you take one step at a time.
KEY POINT
For a better tomorrow, put your past behind you.
HYMN 6: I’M PRESSING ON THE UPWARD WAY
1. I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining everyday;
Still praying as I onward bound
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
CHORUS
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s table-land;
Where love, and joy, and light abound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
2. My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise, and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My constant aim is higher ground.
3. Beyond the mist I fain would rise,
To rest beneath unclouded skies,
Above earth’s turmoil peace is found
By those who dwell on higher ground.
4. I long to scale the utmost height,
Though rough the way, and hard the fight,
My song, while climbing, shall resound
Lord, lead me on to higher ground.
5. Lord, lead me up the mountain side
I dare not climb without my Guide;
And, heaven gained, I’ll gaze around,
With grateful heart from higher ground.
