Title: Whom To Obey
Memorize: But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (Nkjv)
[1] Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.
[2] And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God
Message:
Daniel had a consistent prayer life from childhood up until the time he was taken captive to a strange land. He lived a life of righteousness to a point where his devotion to God could not be questioned. He honored God with his life, and this was evident in the wisdom he displayed. Then, in Daniel 6:10-28, his enemies, who knew he could not do without praying, conspired against him and made the king decree that no one should pray to God.
Daniel, however, was not moved; he continued to pray. A teenager once asked me if Daniel did the right thing by flaunting his prayer life despite being instructed by the king of Babylon not to pray. I made him understand that anyone who lacks the understanding of the word ‘obedience’ will be prey to false doctrines and authorities with wrong motives. As a believer, your primary obedience should be to God’s word.
My dear child, anyone who wants to break your communication with God is a real enemy that you shouldn’t obey. No matter their social or political status, don’t succumb to any authority that wants to make you severe ties with your Creator.
Key Point:
Obey constituted authority within the confines of God’s word.
HYMN 30 – WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey. [Refrain]
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]
