Title: Elijah Prayed
Memorize: Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”1 Kings 18:37 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 18:36-37 (Nkjv)
[36] And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, “Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word.
[37] Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”
Message:
Elijah was a prophet during a time when many people in Israel were worshiping a false god named Baal.
To prove that the Lord is the one true God, he challenged the prophets of Baal to a contest.
They were to prepare sacrifices but not light the fire themselves.
Instead, they would pray for their god to send fire from heaven to consume the offering.
While the prophets of Baal prayed all day and nothing happened, Elijah prayed a simple, heartfelt prayer to God and got a dramatic response.
God sent fire from heaven that consumed not only the sacrifice but also the wood, stones, and even the water in the trench around the altar.
Is there anything you think God cannot do? In my over 45 years of following God, I can tell you for free that nothing is impossible with Him.
You only need to pray the kind of prayer Elijah prayed. Ask God to prove that He is the Almighty God in any difficult situation you might be facing.
Prayer Point:
Father, please prove Your might in my life. Let the whole world know that I am serving a living God.
HYMN 60: MOST ANCIENT OF ALL MYSTERIES
1 Most ancient of all mysteries,
Before Thy throne we lie;
Have mercy now, most merciful,
Most holy Trinity.
2 When heav’n and earth were yet unmade,
When time was yet unknown,
Thou in Thy bliss and majesty
Didst live and love alone.
3 Thou wert not born; there was no fount
From which Thy Being flowed;
There is no end which Thou canst reach;
But Thou art simply God.
4 How wonderful creation is,
The work which Thou didst bless,
And O what then must Thou be like,
Eternal loveliness!
5 0 listen then, most pitiful,
To Thy poor creature’s heart:
It blesses Thee that Thou art God,
That Thou art what Thou art.
6 Most ancient of all mysteries,
Still at thy throne we lie;
Have mercy now, most merciful,
Most holy Trinity.
