Title: Don’t Be Wordly
Memorize: Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading (Nkjv): 1 John 2:15-17
[15] Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
[16] For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
[17] And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
Message:
The major reason sinners are comfortable in Churches today is because worldliness has become the order of the day.
Young people get involved in fraud ritual killings, et cetera, just to get rich quickly, forgetting Apostle Paul’s counsel to be content with what they have (1 Timothy 6:6-11).
Today, people say, “the end justifies the means”, but this is contrary to the word of God that says everyone will give account for his/her actions (Romans 14:12)
Another reason for the growth of worldliness in the Church today is that some children of God are now living lives of deadly compromise.
Some young people now disregard their parents’ stance on integrity, calling it ‘old school’ because they want to become successful quickly.
If care is not taken, this may eventually lead to their untimely death.
Beloved, you must shine as a light to eliminate worldliness. This can be achieved through the knowledge of the Scriptures.
Prayer Point:
Father, please take the lust for worldliness away from my heart in Jesus’ name.
HYMN 9 – O JESUS, I HAVE PROMISED
1. O Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou for ever near me,
My Master and my Friend:
I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my Guide.
2. O let me feel Thee near me;
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.
3. O let me hear Thee speaking
In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
The murmurs of self-will;
O speak to reassure me,
To hasten or control;
O speak and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.
4. O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee,
That where Thou art in Glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And, Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow
My Master and my Friend.
