Title: Help From Above
Memorize: My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:2 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 17:8-16 (Nkjv)
[8] Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
[9] “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”
[10] So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.”
[11] And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
[12] So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
[13] And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.
[14] For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ ”
[15] So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days.
[16] The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.
Message:
Divine help refers to God’s intervention in a fellow’s life that enables the fellow to get what he or she needs or achieve what he or she needs to achieve. God is always on time; He is never late (Psalm 46:1). At any moment you need help, He will be there to help you (Psalm 124:1-7).
Many years ago, during our annual convention in The Redeemed Christian Church of God., my wife came to me and said, “Darling, we need N5,000 to feed the people today.” It was a lot of money in those days, and even though I had no money with me, I told her, “Go. I will call you to give you the money later.” As she left, I turned to the Helper of the helpless, praying for a way to feed everyone present at the convention. Not long after, a man, who had been driving past the Redemption Camp (now Redemption City), decided to stop by. He asked to know what was going on, and I told him we were having a convention, to which he replied, “That is a very wonderful idea. Next year, I will be part of it.” He then put his hand in his pocket and said, “But for now, have this.” He gave me an envelope and left. When I opened the envelope, I found N1,000 in it. I turned to God and said, “Thank you Lord; we have N1,000 now and N4,000 to go.” Miraculously, God provided the remaining money. In the nick of time, God sent help to me. Your help will come today, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer Point:
Father, please send help to me and my family today.
Hymn 27 – What A Friend We Have In Jesus
1 What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
3 Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there
