Title: Vision For Choices
Memorize: He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed. Proverbs 13:20 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Habakkuk 2:1-2 (Nkjv)
[1] I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected.
[2] Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
Message:
I learnt early in life that people are attracted to and spend time with people who have vision and are disciplined. If you find an unserious fellow with many friends, it is usually because they all have similar characteristics and are heading nowhere in life.
Having a vision determines our direction in life and also chooses our friends and the company we keep. Many years ago, when I had the vision of becoming the youngest Vice-chancellor in Africa, I carefully chose friends who were focused and disciplined. I also hung out with some colleagues who were running their MSc. and Ph.D. programs at the time. I attended seminars and academic conferences, and I networked with people who were heading where I was headed.
My dear child, don’t associate yourself with peers who do not know where they are headed in life or whose activities tend towards destruction. You must develop a vision for your life and choose friends who will propel you in the right direction.
Reflection:
Do your friends align with your vision?
Hymn 43: Lead Us Heavenly Father, Lead Us
1 Lead Us, Heavenly Father, Lead Us
O’er The World’s Tempestuous Sea;
Guard Us, Guide Us, Keep Us, Feed Us,
For We Have No Help But Thee,
Yet Possessing Every Blessing
If Our God Our Father Be.
2 Saviour, Breathe Forgiveness O’er Us;
All Our Weakness Thou Dost Know;
Thou Didst Tread This Earth Before Us,
Thou Didst Feel lts Keenest Woe;
Lone And Dreary, Faint And Weary,
Through The Desert Thou Didst Go.
3 Spirit Of Our God, Descending,
Fill Our Hearts With Heavenly Joy,
Love With Every Passion Blending,
Pleasure That Can Never Cloy;
Thus Provided, Pardoned, Guided,
Nothing Can Our Peace Destroy.
