Title: Tame That Addiction
Memorize: Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls. Proverbs 25:28 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Mark 9:43-48 (Nkjv)
[43] If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—
[44] where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’
[45] And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—
[46] where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’
[47] And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—
[48] where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’
Message:
When a person is addicted to something, it means that the thing has a strong hold on that person, and it has become very difficult for that person to overcome its influence.
In essence, it means that a person lacks self-control when it comes to something.
Many young people are addicted to things, such as food, sleep, shopping, video games, social media, hard drugs, gambling, et cetera.
Such addictions usually drain them spiritually, financially, mentally, and academically.
My dear child, I want you to know that whatever a person cannot control will eventually control the fellow’s life.
Therefore, if you are battling any form of addiction, you need to get a grip on it by first identifying it and seeking help from godly counsellors – don’t remain in its ditch.
Also, remember to ask for help from the Holy Spirit; He’ll gladly come to your rescue as long as you are ready to follow all His instructions.
I pray that if you are under the chains of any form of addiction, the Almighty God will break such chains, in Jesus’ name.
Quiz: According to today’s devotional, what is the first step to breaking free from addiction?
Action Point:
If you have addictions in your life that you want to get rid of, list them out, and ask God in prayer to help you overcome them.
HYMN 3: ANCIENT WORDS
1.Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world
They resound with God’s own heart
Oh, let the ancient words impart
Chorus:
Ancient words, ever true
Changing me and changing you
We have come with open hearts
Oh, let the ancient words impart
2.Words of life, words of hope
Give us strength, help us cope
In this world, where e’er we roam
Ancient words will guide us home
3.Holy words of our faith
Handed down to this age
Came to us through sacrifice
Oh, heed the faithful words of Christ
4.Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world
They resound with God’s own heart
Oh, let the ancient words impart
