Title: Own Your Joy

MEMORIZE: Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:24 (NKJV)

BIBLE READING 1 SAMUEL 30:1-6 (NKJV)

[1]Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire,

[2]and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way.

[3]So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive.

[4]Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep.

[5]And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive.

[6]Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

MESSAGE

There are many people who have moved from one year to another carrying the same problems, frustration and struggles. They go about with burdens too big for their shoulders, forgetting Peter’s admonition in 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon him: for he careth for you.” Having the assurance that God cares for me is enough to make me wake up each day believing that my tomorrow will be alright.

You need to understand that when God says that He cares for you, it doesn’t matter what anyone says about your present condition or how you are treated, what God says is final.

I remember when a mate that I often played with in our village said that I would never become anything in life. Today, to the glory of God, I am who God says I am.

One of the surest ways to walk in joy is by Spending time with God because there is joy in the presence of God. Psalm 16:11 says: “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy, at thy right hand there are pleasures forever more”

KEY POINT

To walk in joy, avoid distractions and remain in God’s presence.

HYMN 1 – BE GLAD IN THE LORD AND REJOICE

  1. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice,
    All ye that are upright in heart;
    And ye that have made Him your choice,
    Bid sadness and sorrow depart.

CHORUS
Rejoice! Rejoice!..
Be glad in the Lord and Rejoice!
Rejoice! Rejoice!.
Be glad in the Lord and Rejoice!

  1. Be joyful for He is the Lord,
    On earth and in heaven supreme;
    He fashions and rules by His words;
    The “Mighty” and “Strong” to redeem.
  2. What tho’ in the conflict for right
    Your enemies almost prevail!
    God’s armies, just hid from your sight,
    Are more than the foes which assail.
  3. Thơ’ darkness Surround you by day,
    Your sky by the night be o’er cast,
    Let nothing your spirit dismay.
    But trust till the danger is past.
  4. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice,
    His praises proclaiming in song:
    With harp, and with organ, and voice,
    The loud hallelujahs prolong!
