Title: Losing Courage?
Memorize: Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance. Psalm 42:5 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Numbers 13:32-33 (Nkjv)
[32] And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.
[33] There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
Message:
God had promised to take the Israelites to the Promised Land. He delivered them from the hands of their slave masters in Egypt, parted the Red Sea for them to walk on dry land, and caused Pharaoh and his men, who were in hot pursuit after them, to perish in the sea. He also provided manna from heaven for them, and when they wanted meat, He provided them with quails. He fought and won many battles for them, but when they were faced with giants, they became discouraged – except Joshua and Caleb.
My dear child, the troubles of life can make you become discouraged, thereby leading to a fear of failure and loss of hope. Discouragement often comes when a fellow is about to achieve an important feat in life.
Have you been asking things from God, and it seems the answers are far-fetched? Don’t stop asking until your joy is full. Are you about to write an examination in which you believe that you will not score very high because you are not good at the subject or course? That mindset is not of God. Study hard for the examination and ask the Holy Spirit for help today.
Quiz: How many spies gave a bad report to Moses after surveying the land of Canaan?
Key Point:
Never give room for discouragement.
Hymn 30 – When We Walk With The Lord
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
