Title: Hymns Are Not Boring
Memorize: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Ephesians 5:19-20 (Nkjv)
[19] speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
[20] giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Message:
For some years now, I have been composing the hymns for our Holy Ghost Services and other special programs. When you listen to them, you will observe that the lyrics are directly from God and my experiences with Him. Contrary to the belief of some teenagers that hymns are boring, they are not. Hymns have the power to take you into the presence of the Most High. One of the major challenges faced every year while selecting hymns for the devotional is the consideration that the teenagers reading it may not know the tune of the hymns. However, through the leading of the Holy Spirit, we keep putting the hymns so you can learn them and use them in your quiet time as well.
When I studied the history of some of the composers of hymns in centuries past, I realized that only God could have carried them through some of the experiences they faced that led to them composing the hymns. No wonder hymns are loaded with words of wisdom and divine inspiration.
My dear child, if you have not been singing the hymn for each day’s devotional, you are missing out on the wisdom and inspiration from God that is present in hymns.
Action Point:
Make sure you always sing the hymn for each day’s devotional.
HYMN 63: O FOR A THOUSAND TONGUES TO SING
1 O for a thousand tongues to sing
my great Redeemer’s praise,
the glories of my God and King,
the triumphs of his grace!
2 My gracious Master and my God,
assist me to proclaim,
to spread thro’ all the earth abroad
the honors of your name.
3 Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
that bids our sorrows cease,
’tis music in the sinner’s ears,
’tis life and health and peace.
4 He breaks the power of cancelled sin,
he sets the prisoner free;
his blood can make the foulest clean;
his blood availed for me.
5 To God all glory, praise, and love
be now and ever given
by saints below and saints above,
the Church in earth and heaven.
