Title: The Greatest Gift
Memorize: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Ephesians 2:8-10 (Nkjv)
[8] For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
[9] not of works, lest anyone should boast.
[10] For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Message:
Everyone expects gifts on special occasions: birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, et cetera, but the one that is most appreciated is the gift given when there is no form of celebration. This kind of gift makes one feel loved in a very special way because it shows the giver is thoughtful and caring.
From the memory verse, the greatest gift given to man by God is love, which was expressed when He sent His only begotten Son to the earth as a child who grew and died for the sins of men. There is no gift as great as this. The only way to reciprocate this love is by accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal Savior and by doing His will. Don’t eat jollof rice and chicken today if you are yet to accept Jesus into your life. So, as you go about celebrating with friends today, tell them the essence of Christmas – Jesus Christ.
Action Point:
Show love to your friends by giving them a gift today: it doesn’t have to be something very fancy.
HYMN 4 – ON A HILL FAR AWAY
1. On a hill far away
Stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross
Where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
CHORUS
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross;
And exchange it someday for a crown.
2. Oh, that old rugged cross
So despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God
Left His glory above,
To bear it to dark Calvary.
3. In the old rugged cross,
Stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see;
For ’twas on that old cross
Je-sus suffered and died,
To par -don and sanc-ti-fy me.
4. To the old rugged cross
I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He’ll call me some day
To my home far away,
Where His glory for-ever share
