Title: A Noble Profession
Memorize: Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men. Proverbs 22:29 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Daniel 1:3-4 (Nkjv)
[3] Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles,
[4] young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans.
Message:
A profession, according to the dictionary, is a paid occupation, especially one that involves prolonged training and a formal qualification. God is the originator of all professions, and this was evident in the life of the first man and woman – Adam and Eve. First, Adam practised zoology when he named all the animals in Genesis 2:19. He practised fashion designing when he and his wife made clothes from leaves, and he also practised farming in the garden of Eden. When God sent him out of the garden, he must have also practised midwifery to help his wife deliver their children.
Paul was a lawyer and tentmaker, Peter was a fisherman before he became a global evangelist, and I was a senior lecturer at the university before I became a pastor. Beloved, every noble profession was inspired by God, the creator of all wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3).
My dear child, you can become anything you want to be as long as your life keeps giving glory to God. Thus, in whatever you choose to do, ask for divine guidance and the grace to excel at it.
Key Point:
Write what you would love to become and ask God to guide your choice.
HYMN 4 – CHRIST IS OUR CORNER-STONE
1. Christ is our Comer-stone;
On Him alone we build;
With His true Saints alone
The courts of Heaven are filled;
On His great Love
Our hopes we place
Of present grace,
And joys above.
2. Oh, then with hymns of praise
These hallow’d courts shall ring:
Our voices we will raise,
The Three in One to sing;
And thus proclaim
In joyful song,
Both loud and long,
That glorious Name.
3. Here, gracious God, do Thou
For evermore draw nigh;
Accept each faithful vow,
And mark each suppliant sigh;
In copious shower
On all who pray,
Each holy day,
Thy blessings pour.
4 Here may we gain from Heaven,
The grace which we implore,
And may that grace, once given
Be with us evermore;
Until that day,
When all the blest,
To endless rest
Are call’d away
