Title: What Is In Your Heart?
Memorize: As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. Psalm 42:1
Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 16:6-13 (Nkjv)
[6] So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him!”
[7] But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
[8] So Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.”
[9] Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.”
[10] Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.”
[11] And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.”
[12] So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!”
[13] Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
Message:
I always yearned to be different from every other Christian. After my conversion, I told God that I did not want to be an ordinary Christian.
I always wanted to carry the power of the Holy Spirit to do extraordinary things for God, and this desire has come to pass.
Today, many Christians are so materialistic that if the contents of their hearts are emptied, no desire for spiritual things would be found.
What God sees in your heart will determine how and where He will place you in His plan.
It is commonly said that like begets like; if your heart is full of thoughts of God, there is no way He will not make room for you.
It is important to note that God sometimes picks unexpected people. In Jesse’s house, He picked David, the youngest.
David was a man who loved what God loves and hated what God hates; hence, he was called a man after God’s heart.
Beloved, what you fill your heart with will determine if God will use you. Is God pleased with the content of your heart?
Key Point:
To be used by God, fill your heart with godly things.
HYMN 56 – NEARER MY GOD TO THEE
1. Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee;
E’en Though It Be A Cross
That Raiseth Me,
Still All My Song Shall Be,
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee!
2. Though Like The Wanderer,
The Sun Gone Down,
Darkness Be Over Me,
My Rest A Stone,
Yet In My Dreams I’d Be
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee!
3. There Let The Way Appear
Steps Unto Heaven;
All That Thou Send’st To Me
In Mercy Given;
Angels To Beckon Me
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee!
4. Then With My Waking Thoughts
Bright With Thy Praise,
Out Of My Stony Griefs
Bethel I’ll Raise;
So By My Woes To Be
Nearer, My God, To Thee,
Nearer To Thee!
5. Or If On Joyful Wing
Cleaving The Sky,
Sun, Moon, And Stars Forgot,
Upward I Fly,
Still All My Song Shall Be,
Nearer, My God, To Thee;
Nearer To Thee!
