Title: Don’t Sell Your Destiny for Food

MEMORIZE:  But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ” Luke 4:4 (NKJV)

BIBLE READING: GENESIS 25:29-34 (NKJV)

29). Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary.

30). And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.

31). But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”

32). And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”

33). Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.

34). And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

MESSAGE

It is rather unfortunate that many people in the world today are still losing their great destiny to food. Food can be very powerful. Adam and Eve lost their lives of bliss, peace, abundance, glory, and honour to food.

Is it not amazing that despite the abundant food variety provided by God for Adam and Eve, they still developed an appetite for the particular one that was forbidden?

Some Christians now find it difficult to fast, Some even see it as a form of punishment, and this is because they have made their bellies master.

Remember the story of Esau and how he lost his birthright to Jacob because of food (pottage). Even our Lord Jesus Christ was tempted with food, but He gave a profound response, as seen in the memory verse.

Many ladies have sold their pride of virginity for things that don’t matter, like food, the latest smartphone, wigs, et cetera. Beloved, don’t eat or sell your destiny: rather, be guided by the word of God.

REFLECTION

What is taking the place of the word of God in your life?

HYMN 5 – TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

1. Take my life and let it
Consecrated Lord to Thee
Take my moment and my days
Let them flow ceaseless praise.

2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for thee

3. Take my voice and let me sing
Always only for my king;
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my sliver and my gold
Not a mite would I withhold
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall no longer mine:
Take my heart, it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for thee .
