TOPIC: Unpredictable God
MEMORISE: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. – Isaiah 55:8
BIBLE READING: 1 Kings 19:11-13
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
MESSAGE:
In today’s Bible reading, Elijah relayed His plight to God. His life was in great danger; Jezebel had vowed to kill him because he killed 450 prophets of Baal. Elijah expected God to step into the matter quickly, but the Bible says that there was a great wind, an earthquake, and a fire, but God was not in any of them.
In 2 Kings 5, Elisha told Naaman to go Wash in a river seven times. Naaman complained because he had expected the man of God to just pray, and the sickness would vanish. Thank God the people around him encouraged him to do as instructed; otherwise, he would have died a leper.
God desires to do many things for His children, but you must be open-minded to receive your miracle. There are times He might say, “Study to show yourself approved unto God”, and at other times, He might say, “Not by works, but my grace is sufficient for you.”
Beloved, in what area are you expecting God to show up mightily in your life? He will definitely do so, but it may not be the way you expect. God works in mysterious ways, which may be completely different from your expectations.
KEY POINT: God’s ways are higher than your ways; stop limiting Him.
HYMN: 9 – Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise
1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
3 To all life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.
4 Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render, O help Us to see:
‘Tis only the splendour of light hideth Thee.
