MEMORISE: Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. Ephesians 4:29
BIBLE READING: 1 Samuel 25:2-33
2 And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.
3 Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb…
MESSAGE:
The story in today’s Bible reading is one that is full of lessons. Nabal’s wife, Abigail, saved her entire household just by speaking wisely and doing the right thing. If not for her swift intervention, David would have destroyed Nabal’s entire household. On learning about David’s planned attack, Abigail quickly loaded donkeys with food supplies and went out to meet him. When she got to him, she bowed and said:
“On me, my lord, on me let this iniquity be! And please let your maidservant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your maidservant. Please, let not my lord regard this scoundrel, Nabal. For as his name is, so is he: Nabal is his name, and folly is with him!…” 1 Samuel 25:24-25
Abigail’s words were gentle and soothing, and as a result, David’s anger disappeared.
My dear child, don’t be like Nabal; always avoid harsh and hasty words that can ignite conflict. Before you speak, especially in moments of conflict or anger, ask yourself, “Is what I’m about to say a kind word? Will my words bring calmness to the situation?” Like Abigail, always speak with wisdom,

For We Have No Help But Thee,
Yet Possessing Every Blessing
If Our God Our Father Be.
2 Saviour, Breathe Forgiveness O’er Us;
All Our Weakness Thou Dost Know;
Thou Didst Tread This Earth Before Us,
Thou Didst Feel lts Keenest Woe;
Lone And Dreary, Faint And Weary,
Through The Desert Thou Didst Go.
3 Spirit Of Our God, Descending,
Fill Our Hearts With Heavenly Joy,
Love With Every Passion Blending,
Pleasure That Can Never Cloy;
Thus Provided, Pardoned, Guided,
Nothing Can Our Peace Destroy.
