TOPIC – Your Dressing Matters
MEMORISE: Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. – 1 Corinthians 10:31
BIBLE READING: Exodus 2:15-20
15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.
16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.
17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.
18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?
19 And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.
20 And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.
MESSAGE:
Before people get an opportunity to know you, they will likely judge you based on how you are dressed. This is why it is important to dress decently at all times. There is a popular saying that you will be addressed the way you are dressed. In today’s Bible reading, Moses probably ran away from Egypt dressed like an Egyptian prince; hence, when Reuel’s daughters tried describing him to their father, he was called an Egyptian and not an Israelite.
In Genesis 3:21, when God was about to send Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden, He made clothes for them to cover their nakedness. Also, in Exodus 28, God gave Moses clear instructions on how the priests had to be dressed. The New Testament also makes reference to modest dressing (1 Timothy 2:9). These examples tell us that God values modest dressing.
My dear child, do not go about exposing parts of your body that should be covered. You are part of a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9); therefore, you must dress like one.
KEY POINT:
You will be addressed the way you are dressed.
HYMN 43: Lead Us Heavenly Father, Lead Us
1 Lead Us, Heavenly Father, Lead Us
O’er The World’s Tempestuous Sea;
Guard Us, Guide Us, Keep Us, Feed Us,
For We Have No Help But Thee,
Yet Possessing Every Blessing
If Our God Our Father Be.
2 Saviour, Breathe Forgiveness O’er Us;
All Our Weakness Thou Dost Know;
Thou Didst Tread This Earth Before Us,
Thou Didst Feel lts Keenest Woe;
Lone And Dreary, Faint And Weary,
Through The Desert Thou Didst Go.
3 Spirit Of Our God, Descending,
Fill Our Hearts With Heavenly Joy,
Love With Every Passion Blending,
Pleasure That Can Never Cloy;
Thus Provided, Pardoned, Guided,
Nothing Can Our Peace Destroy.
