Title: Follow Well To Lead Well
Memorize: For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? Matthew 16:24 (Nkjv)
Bible Reading: Matthew 16:24-26 (Nkjv)
[24] Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
[25] For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
[26] For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Message:
Good leadership is not by chance; it usually stems from good followership. For example, the 12 disciples followed Jesus closely for three and a half years; they ate, played, prayed, slept, and preached together. No wonder they performed as excellent leaders after Jesus ascended to heaven. Through their words and actions, people knew that they had been with Him.
Beloved, for any leader to lead well, he or she must first be a good follower. The shortage of good leaders today is majorly because many people did not obey their parents, teachers, and constituted authority when they were followers. So, it is difficult for them to lead welI.
By God’s grace, I was more knowledgeable than my Father in the Lord, butI| submitted to his leading until he was called to glory. He once taught me that leadership entails sacrifice, so both of us would subject ourselves to many weeks of fasting while we fed the church members for free during our programmes. He taught me how to give my all even when I had no plan B. To the glory of God, even in his absence, I still starve myself of many things so that our members can be comfortable in the ministry. My dear child, be a good follower so that when the time Comes, you will be a great leader.
Key Point:
For you to lead well in the future, start by being a good follower.
Bible Quiz:
Good leadership usually leads to good…
HYMN 30: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey. [Refrain]
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]
