TOPIC: Who Do You Run To?
MEMORISE: A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” – 2 Kings 4:1
BIBLE READING: 2 Kings 4:1-7
1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knows that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.Spiritual Growth Guides
MESSAGE:
In life, knowing where to seek help is crucial. The widow in today’s Bible reading was in a desperate situation. Her late husband’s creditor was about to take her two sons as payment for his debt. Instead of panicking or seeking help in the wrong places, she ran to Elisha, a man of God. She sought help from the right source, and God provided a miraculous solution for her.
My dear child, when faced with challenges, who do you turn to for help? Imagine a student who is struggling to pass a subject but is refusing to seek help from the best student in the class due to pride or personal grudges. That decision would only prevent such a student from making a headway in that subject.
If you are a student, do not let pride keep you from asking a knowledgeable classmate for assistance if you need help with any of your subjects/courses. Also, be humble enough to seek guidance from your parents, teachers, or school counsellors whenever you feel stuck. Above all, always turn to God for wisdom and direction in every situation. Running to the right people and especially to God will lead to victory and breakthrough.
PRAYER POINT:
Father, please help me to always seek help from the right people and, above all, to trust in You.
HYMN 5: Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour
1 Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
do not pass me by.
Refrain:
Savior, Savior, hear my humble cry;
while on others Thou art calling,
do not pass me by.
2 Let me at a throne of mercy
find a sweet relief,
kneeling there in deep contrition;
help my unbelief. [Refrain]
3 Trusting only in Thy merit,
Would I seek Thy face;
heal my wounded, broken spirit,
save me by Thy grace. [Refrain]
4 Thou, the Spring of all my comfort,
more than life to me;
Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
Whom in heav’n but Thee? [Refrain]
