TOPIC: SOCIAL ENVY
MEMORISE: Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:26
BIBLE READING: GENESIS 4:3-8
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew
MESSAGE:
Envy should not be found in the lives of God’s children. It is a sin that can lead to other sins like murder, as in the case of Cain and Abel, who both offered sacrifices to God.
While Cain’s offering was rejected, Abel’s offering was accepted. Cain then murdered his brother because he was envious of him.
If you get irritated at other people’s successes or become jealous of other people, you need to check your heart and ask God to uproot envy from your life.
I have seen people engage in unnecessary competition because of envy, with each person trying to bring down the others because they wish they had what the other parties had.
All these should not even be found among believers, but sadly, it is.
My dear child, it is important to note that envy is a sign of a lack of faith.
If you have faith in God, you only need to ask Him for anything you need, and He will supply your needs and give you even more, as He did for King Solomon in 2 Chronicles l:6-12.
PRAYER POINT:
Father, please remove any form of envy that might exist in my life, in Jesus’ name.
HYMN 55 –
CHRISTIAN, SEEK NOT YET REPOSE
1 Christian, Seek Not Yet Repose;
Hear Thy Guardian Angel Say,
“Thou Art In The Midst Of Foes:
Watch And Pray!”
2 Principalities And Powers,
Mustering Their Unseen Array,
Wait For Thy Unguarded Hours:
“Watch And Pray.”
3 Gird Thy Heavenly Armour On;
Wear It Every Night And Day
Ambush’d Lies The Evil One:
“Watch And Pray.”
4 Hear The Victors Who O’ercame;
Still They Mark Each Warrior’s Way;
All With One Sweet Voice Exclaim,
“Watch And Pray!”
5 Hear, Above AlI, Hear Thy Lord,
Him Thou Lovest To Obey;
Hide Within Thy Heart His Word:
“Watch And Pray!.”
6 Watch, As If On That Alone
Hung The Issue Of The Day;
Pray, That Help May Be Sent Down:
Watch And Pray.
